DIY Coffee Filter Flowers

These easy coffee filter flowers got me through the dreary days of winter!
There aren’t any flowers blooming just yet here, but I have already been to garden centres, and am planning what my new flower bed will look like by my new greenhouse!

To make these flowers, you will need:

10 coffee filters for each flower
food colouring of your choice
clear tape
floral tape
stem wire from a craft store (or any small gauge wire)

The first step is to colour your filters. Add water and food colouring to a small bowl. I used about 2 cups water and added 6-7 drops of red and 2 drops of yellow. It looks orange, but turned out a really nice soft pink. If you want the ends of the petals white, just dip the bottom of the filters. If you want everything coloured, dip the entire filter. Whatever you decide, dip quick because they soak up the water quickly. Leave them in their stacks of 20, and let them dry on waxed paper overnight.

The next day…..time to assemble your flowers!

**Cut the ends to make a heart shape. (this makes the scallop)**

Once they are scalloped, put them in stacks of 10. Take one stem wire and make a loop at one end. Thread 2 coffee filters at a time on the wire.

Fold the filters over the loop and scrunch them at the bottom and wrap a piece of clear tape on the end to hold it together

. Keep putting your filters on 2 at a time and scrunching and twisting them at the bottom and stacking them, until you get all 10 on. Secure the entire flower with floral tape.

All you have to do now is shape the petals….bend them back 2 at a time, as far as you like. I cut every couple of scallops on the bottom 2 filters so they would “fill” out a bit more.

That’s it! Pop them in a vase with some faux greenery…and you have flowers until you can fill your home with the real thing!
with Wedding season coming up, they would be pretty without the stems, on a flower wall, or just scattered about, They would also be so pretty glued on a grapevine wreath. Hope you try these easy flowers, and if you do let me know!
