I love straw flowers! They remind me so much of my Grandma, because she loved them too! Grandma was always crafting something, and she had a room bursting with faux flowers, stems, ribbons and her trusty glue gun.

I plant straw flowers in my garden to use for crafts. They are easy to grow, and to dry. When you are picking your flowers, choose ones that aren’t fully open. The flowers will open up as they dry. You just snip them off either right at the bud, or leave their stems on and hang them upside down. (for this craft, I snipped just the buds off) I tossed them in a plastic bowl on the counter and they dried nicely… (believe it or not!) After I collected a nice bowl full, I was ready to make some decorative balls.
Supplies
- dried straw flowers (or small faux flowers)
- Styrofoam balls
- glue gun
All you do is hot glue the flowers on the ball! Easy! I put the ball in a glass (milk glass because it was pretty to look at while crafting) haha , to glue the first few flowers on. Work your way around the entire ball until completely covered.

These balls look so pretty! You can make them as big or as small as you like, depending on your Styrofoam balls. I made the first one last fall. I didn’t have enough flowers to do another one at the time, so I sprinkled the extra ones around……

You could also glue the flowers to a Styrofoam wreath! (I may have to do this!!) I want to eventually have enough made that they will fill my ironstone bowl in the middle of my dining room table.
