Potting Bench made from a Vintage Sink

Vintage Sink Potting Bench

I love to garden and I love vintage! When I saw vintage sinks made into potting benches, I knew my hubby could create one for me! I mean, he built me my own Potting Shed…so a bench would be a piece of cake!

I found the perfect sink from one of my favourite local shop, The Rustic Retreat. Gerald started by turning the sink upside down and measuring the size. After measuring, 2 x 4’s were cut to size and nailed together to form a box for the sink to rest in.

Then he built the basic frame, so that the weight of the sink would be on the upright 2 x 4’s. This is way stronger than just attaching the boards to the side of the “box”.

Then, two boards were screwed along the length of the bottom, to support the cross pieces that were cut to make a shelf. We had some old table legs, we had purchased at an antique fair a few years ago (you never know when you will need table legs haha) Gerald cut them to length, pre drilled them and screwed them to the front of the base. I think it adds a little interest.

I painted the entire base and the sink was lifted into the base…done!

I wanted a skirt for the front, so I used two pillow cases that I had bought from the thrift store. I took a seam ripper and opened up the side of each pillow case, providing me with a longer piece of material. It gives a nice full look!

Pillow cases from the Thrift Store make a great skirt!

Gerald attached a small curtain rod to the front to hold the material. I do NOT sew…so in this case, I folded the material over and added safety pins down the length of the top of the material to create a pocket. You could use iron on fusion tape (or enlist a friend to sew a hem for you) I am too impatient for that, so this works just fine! (this is a potting shed remember) haha

As you can see, I am having so much fun decorating my little space! Thanks for stopping by! Happy Gardening!

  4. I have a vintage sink that my husband built a base for; we use it as a water kitchen for them to play in. When I get my potting shed I am totally stealing it back! Just kidding…maybe
