Summer is alive and well over here at the Hydrangea Farmhouse…but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been thinking of how I am going to switch things up for fall. I have always switched up my decor for the seasons, something I inherited from my Grandma. I thought I better share my summer living room before it gets changed up!
One of the things I do for summer is change my curtains. (I definitely got this idea from Grandma…she always switched out her curtains and tablecloths with the seasons!) I have vintage bark cloth curtains that hang in my living room for fall and winter, but I switch them out for these white sheers in spring!
chaise extend your curtains with a vintage sheet!
They were too short for my windows, so I had my Mom sew a piece of vintage sheet to each panel to extend them!
My chaise is from Ikea, and it came with a white slipcover. We purchased the floral one as well, and I switch to this in the warmer months. Against the white curtains, it adds a nice contrast. I usually have a blanket lying on the end of it. This one is a vintage chenille one, and its lightweight for the summer months.

Our shelves are from Ikea as well. They used to be a grey/green colour. Gerald added bead board to the back, and I painted them white. The whole room took on a mint green and pink look for this summer, because I was inspired by the mint green plant pot I received from my Son and Daughter in law for Mothers Day. I shopped my house for mint green items to display with my pink. I have collected vintage floral prints for years, so they are in rotation throughout the house as well.

My straw flower balls are on display on the shelves. The rose “prints” are actually hard place mats we received as wedding gifts! (I guess that makes them vintage haha)
Our couch is also from Ikea. The white slipcover is a nice backdrop to my colourful pillows and mint green chenille blanket. The chippy table used to be on the other side of the room, but Gerald cut the legs a bit to make it into a perfect coffee table height. It’s usually full of my decor books and flowers, and is the perfect height for our grandson to pull up his chair and have a snack, colour, or drive his cars on.

I thought I would set up a little “blogging corner” using my mint green chippy table. As you can see, it’s covered in succulents at the moment..haha…I do my blogging sitting on the couch for now. The lampshade was an inexpensive plain one I hot glued pom pom trim to…you know how I love my pom pom trim!!

The mantel is always a fun spot to change up. I pulled out my mint green tin tile and thrift store wreath. (this wreath didn’t look like this when I found it. It had plastic fruit and a not too pretty ribbon glued on it. I used a blow dryer to melt the glue, and the fruit and ribbon came right off, leaving a beautiful wreath!)
Without Nutmeg With Nutmeg
The mantel seems to be a favourite sleeping spot for Nutmeg. I switched out the plant on the suitcase, and in that time she posed for the second pic…haha.
I am fortunate that I have space in the garden for flowers, so there is always a fresh bouquet…a definite must in my book!

I hope you enjoyed this quick tour of my Summer living room, and appreciate you so much for stopping by! I’m not ready to say goodbye to Summer just yet…but this lady has been sipping iced tea on the porch, planning decor for the next season! (thanks Grandma xo)
